In our new blog series "Spooky Tourist," we discover nearby authentic, scary places to visit in Central Florida! If you're already making your way out of the Orlando or Tampa areas, why not make the most of your trip by seeing unique things?
Location: Bartow Wonder House AKA the Bartow Mystery House
Distance to Sir Henry's Haunted Trail: 22 miles / 30 minute drive
Other items to do in the neighborhood: The Polk County Sheriff Haunted Jail Tour, then eat under the indoor tree at Charm City Seafood
One of Florida's original tourist attractions, the home was built in 1926 by Conrad Schuck. It's a four story structure made from concrete, railroad track reinforced walls, hand laid mosaic tile work, and a water filtration system that acted as an early version of air conditioning. The home is said to be haunted, and is packed with many unique architectural features that history buffs, design fans, and paranormal enthusiasts will all equally love.
Even though the tour is thematic in a spooky fashion, there are no scare actors who will jump out and scare you. The tour is family friendly.
To see the Bartow Mystery House for yourself, you must book a tour slot in advance and pay in cash when arriving. It is recommended you wear comfortable shoes, wear bug spray, and do not carry any heavy/cumbersome bags that could potentially catch on and knock over items. When visiting the basement, a facial covering is recommended, if you have respiratory issues. Thank you to Mark Muncy from Eerie Florida for this exclusive invite!
